Lymphatic Filariasis is endemic in eight districts (Colombo, Kalutara, Gampaha, Puttalam, Kurunegala, Galle, Matara, and Hambantota) in Sri Lanka. In each district, a Regional Anti- Filariasis Unit (RAFU) is established to conduct parasitological and entomological surveillance and clinical management of filariasis and lymphoedema. Regional Medical Officers in RAFUs contribute significantly to the overall efforts in controlling and preventing filaria in the endemic districts.
The Anti-Filariasis Campaign (AFC) provides technical advice to Regional Medical Officers (RMOO), while administrative authority lies with the Provincial and Regional Directors of Health Services.
