Anti Filariasis Campaign (AFC) and the regional units in the endemic districts register patients with lymphoedema to the lymphoedema clinic to provide Morbidity Management and Disability Prevention (MMDP), essential care package and follow up care. The MMDP includes maintaining good hygiene, skin and wound care, exercises, elevation and wearing suitable footwear to the affected limb/s. Also, the campaign is planning to provide home based care for patients with difficulty in attending clinics.
AFC is collaborating with the hospitals and public health staff for identification of lymphoedema patients in the OPD, clinics, wards and the community to refer them to lymphoedema clinics at AFC and the regional units. The campaign has made way to obtain national survey data (Demographic and Health Survey conducted by the Department of Census and Statistics) on lymphoedema to ascertain the prevalence of lymphoedema and hydrocoele.
