All patients, both local and immigrants who are found to be positive for filariasis irrespective of the diagnostic method will be treated within one week of parasitic detection. The treatment will be given according to their body weight. These patients will be followed up by the campaign or regional units to ensure compliance and parasitic clearance. The drugs which are currently used for treatment of filariasis patients in Sri Lanka are Diethylcarbamazine and Albendazole.
Mass Drug Administration in the locality around each positive patient’s residence will be conducted according to the circular using geo-spatial model or surveillance cues in order to interrupt further transmission of the disease.
